Valley

Having grown up in the small drug town with a tourist problem called Hebden Bridge, surrounded by the beautiful drama of the Yorkshire landscape, I often feel like the place has become a part of me. Inspired by the local theory of ‘Valley bottom fever’, growing up in the landscape and the childhood tales of my father and his siblings, this collection of photographs attempts to represent some of the confusing, uncanny, fleeting beauty of growing up in the Calder Valley.

These photographs were all taken over 12 years in locations inspired by these stories in an aim to document the link between the land and the people in the north. The power, the grit, the history and the strange beauty ingrained within them both.
